April flew by, right? Oh, no, never mind — April was 8 years stuffed into one calendar month. Looking back on the top CleanTechnica articles of the month, some feel like they were an era ago. It’s also weird that the top 3 were about ventilators, masks, and motorcycles. What a month.

The handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in many regions, including the US and some European nations, has certainly exposed complacency, mis-truths, incompetence, and bad decisions, to say the least. However, despite Elon Musk’s recent loose use of language, the word “fascism” has conventional meanings and associations, about serious topics, most of which are not usefully applied to the current crisis (accepting that raising controversy sometimes provokes needed debates).
Or: why Elon Musk is excited about a technology that has been known for such a long time.
I haven’t been writing that many articles lately, mainly because I happen to own a business that has been directly impacted by the COVID-19 storm, but I made time last night to listen to Tesla’s earning call, and … most of it was great. But one thing stood out that I’d like to address. At a point during the call, Elon Musk went on what I only feel comfortable describing as a rant about how we need to let people back out because we were taking away their freedoms due to the COVID virus.
What has “freedom” meant to different people?
