Nissan has rolled out a unique opportunity for electric LEAF drivers in Japan. The company has set up an innovation showcase near its headquarters in Yokohama, Japan, and LEAF drivers can park for free — inside the showcase — if they are fine contributing some of their battery’s electricity to help power … the showcase.

Okay, let’s get this out of the way right away — no, the Nissan Ariya is not a “Tesla Killer.” I couldn’t resist mentioning that term in the headline because it seems to be what everyone mainstream news site calls every new electric vehicle revealed by legacy auto.
Last year, we didn’t have any “semi affordable” electric crossovers or SUVs with 300 miles or more of range on a full charge. 5 years ago, the concept would have been crazy. We now have the Tesla Model Y, we will soon have the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and next year we should have the Nissan Ariya.
The Nissan Ariya is not a threat to Tesla and it shouldn’t be viewed that way. The coming electric SUV is not the “true competition” of Tesla, but it is a refreshing addition to the EV movement that can push more gasoline SUVs off the road.
On Wednesday, July 15, 2020, in Yokohama, Japan, the first big EV news from Nissan in about 10 years was shared with the world. Am I over the top with this statement? Probably, but I have forgotten how many years we have waited for this companion to the Nissan Leaf.
Ariya has the answers. Or, at least, Nissan hopes so. Overall, there has been a positive consumer response to Nissan’s upcoming all-electric SUV — it is a well thought out and attractive EV even in an increasingly competitive market.
