From buying and selling electricity to raising capital for new ventures to securing the grid and valuing decarbonization directly, innumerable innovators from tiny startups to the largest technology firms and governments in the world are exploring how blockchain technologies can transform.

Sprouting out of EV-loving Holland, EVBox has become one of the largest EV charging station companies in the world … and it has plans to conquer the world with some guidance (and a lot of cash) from Engie. So, we’re honored to have the company represented our first annual EV charging conference* in Warsaw, Poland.
This week, BYD simultaneously announced its new Midibus at the Busworld show in Belgium. At the same time, the company shared that it has already secured its first European order for the new vehicle. Connexxion has ordered 21 units of the new BYD offering, which will be deployed to the north part of North Holland. The 21 Midibuses will put into service running a daytime bus route.
The Dutch city of Amsterdam is making substantial progress towards a wide range of sustainability goals, most notably regarding overall energy consumption.
Bike paths: The Netherlands is covered with them, connecting more or less every destination a person might wish to go to and greatly increasing the convenience of cycling as a sustainable mode of transport. In the densely populated country, where space is scarce, a consortium of companies and research labs called Solaroad is endeavoring to make those cycle lanes reduce carbon emissions in yet another way: by having them to generate solar electricity.

Beginning on December 11th, the entire bus fleets of the cities of Eindhoven and Helmond in the Netherlands will be electric. This will make the public fleets (when all 43 buses are taken together) the biggest zero-emissions bus fleet in all of Europe.
Billions of euros are being invested into Europe’s EV market. Most of the industry’s best known vehicles are available. The race to build the infrastructure, which can help make them the vehicle of choice, lags behind. Ford, Volkswagen Group, BMW Group, and Daimler are entering into the race with joint plans to develop 400 sites by 2020. However, Fastned has already built 55 stations throughout the Netherlands and, on December 1, announced the opening of Europe’s 1st “Urban Fast Charging Station” in The Hague, Holland, the Netherlands.
