It was late April 2019 when a friend and I arrived at the Glendale Galleria in California to see the new Captain Marvel movie. While my friend took a business call I wandered into the Tesla showroom next door. It was then, for the first time, I encountered a Model 3 up close. I sat in the car and was amazed at the simplicity of Tesla’s interior design. It was impressive to see a single touchscreen control nearly all of the car’s features — even the direction of airflow.
We did it. We drove 1,140 miles (1,835 kilometers) powered only by electricity! We started out last Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM, stopped for the night in Schaumburg, IL, and arrived at our hotel in Washington D.C. at 11:30 PM on Saturday night. We spent 19 hours and 20 minutes in the car and 4 hours at stops for lunch, dinners, and some quick errands.
The goal is to get to Washington, D.C. in time for the Citizen’s Climate Lobby (CCL) conference that will be on June 9th–11th. Here’s the plan.
