We’ve picked Super73 for the last few “best e-bikes” articles based largely on the levels of star power and “cool” that the brand brings to the e-bike scene — and these two latest custom Super73 builds are no exception. Meet the twins, built by award-winning designer Neil Tjin and ready just in time to show off in Long Beach!

Neil Tjin’s “Tjin Edition” tuning house is one of the most renowned custom car builders in the country, with a wall full of trophies stretching all the way back to his early days in the 1990s Miami import scene and a pedigree of factory-backed SEMA showstoppers. Neil’s latest two Ford builds were EVs, too — a rough and tumble Ford F-150 Lightning that bowed in 2022, and 2021’s bright orange Mustang Mach-E that remains one of my personal favs (below).

Neil’s new Super73s bring that same attention to detail and instinctive understanding of what makes a build feel special to the world of e-bikes, with the Super73-R built to compliment his F-150 Lightning build with army green paint, a hand-stitched orange seat, pedals, and inner wheel accents offset by green handlebar grips, a gold chain, white wall tires, and custom high-intensity lighting.

The second, a ZX model, was built to match something a little bit different. “The custom blue Super73-ZX was built as an exact replica to my Tjin Edition BMW 2002,” wrote Neil, in an email. “From the custom blue paint job, to the chrome and black wheels, to the gold chain, custom yellow headlight, orange pedals and grips and custom tan and plaid seat. Everything was built to match.”

Despite having a number of common friends and even customers over the years, Neil and I never actually met until last year, when I was the emcee at Electrify Expo. These days, that’s Neil’s gig — and he’s launching a new “Electrify Showoff” branch of the show meant to give EV customizers a chance to show their machines to the next generation of enthusiasts.

“I love all things electric, and have been a huge fan of Super73 bikes for years,” says Neil. “We had the opportunity to work closely with the Super73 design team to design two custom bikes to match our latest automotive builds, and the ZX is the perfect compliment to our BMW 2002, lightweight and sleek, and the R is the perfect compliment to the Ford Lightning, tough and rugged.”

Great bikes, Neil I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
