Polytherm GmbH, an Austrian family business with more than 100 employees and a growing vehicle fleet, has just taken delivery of some BYD ATTO 3s. Polytherm specializes in stainless steel pools, swimming pool technology, and spas. It also works on refurbishments for old swimming pools.
Polytherm Managing Director Hermann Weissenecker says, “The BYD ATTO 3 reflects the same values that we embody with our high quality products, which are durability, innovation and excellent price:performance ratio.”
BYD says the ATTO 3 is a spacious C-segment SUV, combining modern aesthetics with exceptional intelligence and efficiency derived from pioneering electric vehicle technology and smart connectivity. It was designed by Wolfgang Egger with the European customer in mind, providing a “stylish fun-inspired choice,” complete with very high levels of standard equipment. The ATTO 3 is equipped with the 60.48 kWh BYD Blade Battery with a 260-mile range (WLTP combined) and DC charging (30–80% state of charge in just 29 minutes).
In other parts of Europe, the ATTO 3 has already won several awards, including being voted the 2023 Family Car of the Year by the Flemish Automobile Club. The ATTO 3 also received a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
Fleet operators like Polytherm that get to interact with a lot of people in both the B2B and B2C settings in meetings with corporations and the general public are like the perfect billboards for electric mobility. They are literally mobile advertising billboards. The people they interact with get to see up close some great electric vehicles and perhaps also get intrigued to the point that they would want to experience the world of electric mobility as well. The curious ones may ask as many questions as they like about the car and how it handles their normal day-to-day activities and schedule. On the B2B side of things, the other corporates they interact with get to see how the EVs are operating in a fleet environment and this could also encourage them to add some electric vehicles to their own fleets.
It’s great to see the ATTO 3 is starting to get some interest from fleet operators in Austria. Fleet operators are some of the best customers, as they provide opportunities for both volume sales and repeat business. Fleet operators have certain fleet replacement cycles that help drive repeat business. Last year, BYD and SIXT signed a deal for 100,000 EVs over the next 5 years. The ATTO 3 is expected to be a major part of the deal, as it is currently the BEV model from BYD that is on sale in several European markets. In the UK, BYD and Octopus Electric Vehicles have announced the signing of an MOU which signals an intent from Octopus EV to purchase 5,000 electric vehicles from BYD for UK customers over the next 3 years.
Another BYD EV I am looking forward to seeing in Europe is the BYD Dolphin. Compact hatchbacks are very popular in Europe and it should do very well there. Let’s wait and see how well it does once it is launched there.

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
