In February of last year, BYD Auto Industry Co Ltd (BYD) and UZAVTOSANOAT JSC (UzAuto) signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop, produce, and popularize “new energy vehicles” (NEV) in Uzbekistan. UzAuto is the largest and only manufacturer in Central Asia to offer a full range of vehicles. UzAuto has a longstanding heritage spanning several decades. During this time, it has established an excellent reputation within the industry, achieving a significant market share in Uzbekistan and the neighbouring region.

In another exciting development for Uzbekistan, BYD launched three new EV models in the country two days ago at a brand and product presale conference. The three models are the brand’s flagship Han BEV sedan as well as two super hybrid models. The super hybrid models are the very popular Song PLUS DM-i and the Destroyer 05. These models are all equipped with BYD’s innovative Blade Batteries.

BYD is moving swiftly, and already, a number of stores will be officially opened in Uzbekistan — this month. These stores will be opened in the capital city initially before expanding to other cities. The stores will include a BYD flagship store and technology museum, a comprehensive large-scale BYD brand experience center, and a BYD city showroom. Uzbekistan is the biggest market for automobiles in Central Asia.

Cao Shuang, deputy general manager of BYD Central Asia Co., Ltd., said: “We are very pleased to bring BYD’s innovative products and leading technologies to Uzbekistan. We hope to provide consumers with excellent localized customer service and high-quality product experience, Therefore, BYD is committed to working together with excellent local dealers and industry partners to create high-end products and services with green technology and excellent quality.”

BYD has been opening up new markets at a record pace and it looks like we are now getting one of these types of announcements every week now. BYD has been on a roll launching in several markets around the world backed by its increased production capacity. The company has now launched NEV sales in several markets in Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Asia. You can also get BYD passenger and commercial vehicles in some countries on the African continent. Last month, BYD sold over 15,000 vehicles overseas. Another exciting announcement recently that will help underpin its drive to expand production outside China, BYD has just started constructing a plant in Thailand that will produce 150,000 vehicles per year. The plant is expected to be operational in early 2024. Now, a plant in Uzbekistan will add a vehicle assembly and production presence in Central Asia. South America is probably on the list soon for an expanded production presence outside of China.

BYD says it is following an open and inclusive cooperative attitude where it establishes strategic partnerships with key players in markets around the world to promote the transition to electric mobility. As of March 2023, BYD’s global sales of new energy passenger vehicles now stands at over 3.7 million, covering more than 70 countries and regions and more than 400 cities around the world. BYD is really working hard to take electric mobility to the world. Which market do you think it will announce next? Let us know in the comments below.
