In the United States only about 1.3 percent of all vehicles sold last year were battery powered. And about 90 percent of those sales were by one company — Tesla. What has Tesla done right and where have other electric vehicle makers gone wrong?
Electrify America continues its long march across the United States. Most recently, it announced a partnership with Meijer, a major supercenter retail chain in the Midwest. It will be installing 36 ultrafast charging stations at 9 stores. The stores are located in the Chicago area and Michigan.
Tritium, an EV fast charging company based out of Australia, has now jumped into Plug & Charge. In fact, Tritium says it’s “first to market” with this new solution, offering 350 kW ultrafast chargers (aka high-power chargers) right now with Plug & Charge capability.
The largest ultrafast charging network in Europe aside from Tesla’s exclusive Supercharger network is the Ionity network. The “second phase” of the network’s development is now moving forward.
A Tesla Model 3 has travelled 2,781 km (1,728 miles) in 24 hours, breaking the 24 hour EV distance record. The new record was set by Bjørn Nyland and his co-pilots, on an autobahn in northern Germany.

While people have been charging at Electrify America sites for months in the eastern portions of the US, the Southwest deserts have been among the last places to get a station. I recently had my first chance to use one in Deming, New Mexico. I was very impressed with the station, but there’s definitely room for improvement when it comes to paying for a charge.
