For the total trip, my average energy usage was about 326 Wh/mile over 6,000 miles. This would have been better (lower) during warmer weather, but it’s still good enough to get you from charger to charger on a road trip.

For those out there who love adventure travel, you might be familiar with Outside Magazine. The publication recently decided to test a Tesla Model Y in some rather “remote” terrain.
2019 has been the year of epic Tesla road trips and adventures. We have seen Teslas exploring in the Arctic Circle, all over Norway, in the Scottish highlands, and pretty much all over the world.
A few days ago I told you what I thought was going on at the IAA 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, and that was quite an eye opener for me. One single model stole the show. The world of automobiles will see serious change next year, when the VW ID.3 and other similar models hit the tarmac with their wheels spinning so fast the fossil fuel slurping dinosaurs won’t know what hit them.
In recent weeks, I’ve seen multiple people assert that, “Sure, you can take EVs on road trips on major highways now, but I like to take the backroads, and there are few to no chargers on backroads!” Now, this obviously confused me — not simply because of the fact that it’s not true that chargers exist only on major highways.
