Originally posted on Tesla Oracle & EVANNEX. When you own an electric vehicle, charging protocol is important. Sometimes, due to improper charging habits, a Tesla’s battery can have calibration issues. In turn, these calibration issues can result in battery degradation that might show up — even for a relatively new Tesla. In … [continued]
Panasonic expects its battery business supplying Tesla to be profitable this fiscal year, Reuters reports, and the company has raised its operating profit forecast for the year by over half. The company announced in October that it was developing the new battery cell that Tesla announced on Battery Day — … [continued]
Nikkei Asia has reported that Panasonic will begin producing prototypes of a new, cheaper type of battery for Tesla’s electric vehicles — the new tabless 4680 battery cells. Panasonic will start producing them sometime in 2021.
News today from Panasonic is that it is working with Tesla to produce the 4680 cells. Panasonic is also expanding battery production capacity at Gigafactory 1 in Nevada.
Tesla’s Battery Day was a landmark event for the company. The Silicon Valley automaker plans to begin efforts to produce its own battery cells. Where does that leave Tesla’s existing battery suppliers?
Panasonic says it is adding another battery production line at Gigafactory 1 to make higher density and lower cost batteries for Tesla vehicles.
As reported here and here, there was a lot of information presented at the 2019 Tesla annual shareholder meeting. And although there were a lot of small details covered and hints given about the future, there wasn’t any earth-shattering news. In my summary, I noted they didn’t “let the cat out of the bag.” But I didn’t really know what the cat was, so I didn’t comment.
The Tesla Gigafactory is a technological marvel, is largely a mystery, and also happens to be the world’s biggest battery manufacturing facility. This article was originally going to be about the financing “freeze” and what might actually be going on, but now it will also straighten out some new Panasonic lithium waste that just hit the fan.
Tesla’s Gigafactory 1 in Nevada is solidly on track to achieve a battery production volume of 35 GWh per year (annualized run rate) by the end of 2018. This is two years ahead of the original 2020 target date for achieving these volumes.
The state of electric vehicle (EV) batteries can get confusing. Although internal combustion engine (ICE) aficionados talk about engine displacement and horsepower, EV drivers often consider energy storage as the most important part of their decision making. Today, there are more lithium battery chemistries than ever and figuring out which one is used where and what appears after the dust settles can be difficult. Here’s a brief look at what’s in store tomorrow from the major EV battery OEMs.
