Even though the original Karma design dates back to the financial crisis of the late aughts and the early days of the EV revolution, the swoopy, Henrik Fisker–penned design is still alive, and still turns heads like almost nothing else. There is simply no denying the appeal of a low-slung, … [continued]
When it debuted earlier this year, the all-electric Lotus Evija promised buyers that its electric motors would put some 2000 HP to the ground once it reached production. If true, that claim would make the Evija easily the most powerful production car on the planet, electric or otherwise.
Ferrari has taken an important baby step towards electrification with its latest production supercar, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The car has three electric motors (two at the front, one at the rear axle) coupled with a V8 engine. It goes from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 2.5 seconds. Meanwhile, with a pure electric drivetrain, the next-gen Tesla Roadster prototype does so in 2.1 secs.
In a recent Twitter conversation, Elon Musk confirmed that the upcoming Tesla Roadster will be able to complete the quarter-mile dash in under 8 seconds, thanks to the help of its cold gas thruster system. That’s around 2 seconds quicker than the best million-dollar-plus hypercars from Porsche, Ferrari, and the rest.
The first Chinese super electric vehicle from Qiantu is about to hit the road in the US. Its K50, developed in partnership with Mullen Technologies, is not the only news, though.
Tesla’s next-generation Roadster has been making headlines ever since the Tesla Semi unveiling last year, where this futuristic all-electric supercar descended from the Semi trailer. Tesla aims to launch the Roadster in 2020 and recently teased a stunning new photo of the Roadster in white.
A little EV dreaming and rubbing some salt into the wounds of struggling carmakers can have great consequences. This is where hyper EVs — or electric hypercars — fit in. Although they might have little direct effect on most people, their outrageous performance stunts send a serious messages to carmakers insisting on gasoline technology — that era is ending. Alieno Arcanum shows what an electric drivetrain can deliver, and you won’t believe how outrageous it is.
AIPEI, Taiwan — XING Mobility, a Taipei-based electric powertrain system supplier, has selected Clean Wave Technologies to provide electric motors and drive control units to a rally-inspired supercar. “Miss R,” the world’s first electric supercar with on-and off-road capabilities, will deliver 1MW of power. XING Mobility selected Clean Wave based on its unique product features, including high-efficiency, compact design, low weight and no use of rare earth metals. The vehicle will utilize four Clean Wave traction motors, one for each wheel.
Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and now Pagani are dipping their toes into the electric vehicle (EV) world of electric hypercars. If the tipping point for EV awareness has been reached a while back, this latest exotic gasoline carmaker turning to a new electric chapter is proof the electric drivetrain is the way to go.
