National Drive Electric Week is starting. This annual event has been going on for nearly a decade to raise awareness around electric vehicles (EVs). It’s organized by Plug In America, the Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association, but the core of the work is in the grassroots around the United States and even now the world.
After chatting with a few satisfied new owners of the Chevy Bolt this month, I thought, perhaps it is time to try for a test drive again. Last year, I gave up exploring diverse comparisons to my much appreciated all-electric 2015 Nissan LEAF. I had a hard time finding a variety of EVs at dealerships. The only companies really offering them seemed to be BMW, Nissan, Chevy, Porsche, and Tesla. So, the test drive experience was short — I tried the Volt and the Prius Prime. There simply were not other EVs available for test drives in Sarasota, Florida.
Sarasota County’s productivity and sustainability are alive and well. Thank you, Sustainable Sarasota, for the most recent initiatives promoting fresh air and planetary well-being. Sarasota’s newest program is “ChargeUP” — an Electric Vehicle Charging Station rebate program. This program provides rebates to certain types of businesses within Sarasota County to buy and install EV charging stations.
After 14 months with the Nissan Leaf, I still have never charged at home.
