Underneath that article, some readers requested that I do a report focused only on fully electric vehicles. I thought that was a good idea, so here’s a report on that topic.

My main interest was examining how their adoption curves looked and if they were similar. Half a year later, here’s an update.
In January, I wrote about the inspiring electric vehicle adoption trends in 4 top electric vehicle (EV) markets — Norway, Iceland, the Netherlands, and Sweden. I wasn’t planning to provide an update on these countries until at least the end of the 1st quarter, but the results in February were so uplifting that I decided to jump the gun.
Fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids combined to account for a surprising 37% of the auto market in Iceland in February. That’s up from an already impressive 25% in 2019.
EVs are taking over the world, and if you need proof of this, just look at the sales numbers.
In 2019, 4 countries had more than 10% plug-in vehicle market share. I selected those 4 countries and went back to the year that they had 2% or 3% plug-in vehicle market share to plot out how they grew from there to 11%+.
Iceland made it clear that winning the silver medal was a piece of cake for the island nation, as it logged a massive 25% EV market share in 2019.
