In Louisiana, it’s another day, another hurricane. This time, Hurricane Zeta, which is bringing mostly rain to my neighborhood but much more damage to the New Orleans area right now.
According to daily estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Hurricane Laura reduced crude oil production in the Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico by an estimated 14.4 million barrels over a span of 15 days, the most of any hurricane since the combined effect of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008.
Trump’s war against TikTok has been an odd thing to watch, and it just shows that he is more concerned about Gen Z-ers hating him than he is about Americans who have lost their homes in the California wildfires and, let’s not forget, the hurricane-slammed people of Lake Charles.
The aftermath of Hurricane Laura continues for those in southwest Louisiana. Many are dealing with a mosquito apocalypse now, while Louisiana has been all but forgotten by the national media. California is on fire. Those living near the affected areas have seen drastic color changes in the skies as well as ash falling on everything.
Hurricane Laura became the deadly storm it was due to the extremely warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Before Hurricane Marco fell apart, it was expected that Laura would be no larger than a Category 2 hurricane at the most.
Climate change is one of the many reasons why we have such deadly natural disasters wreaking havoc around the world. And one problem with that is: the more big natural disasters we have, the more people need help, the more others start blocking it all out.
