A CleanTechnica delegation recently visited a super-secret Renault presentation. It was the press presentation of the soon-to-arrive Renault Twingo ZE. This is Renault’s second mass market fully electric passenger vehicle.
It was again time to visit the beautiful surroundings of Geneva.
This year’s hotly anticipated Geneva Motor Show offered the best proof of the relentless progress electric mobility continues to make in the auto industry. Electric cars quite literally stole the show. But in all this display of electric goodness, which car surprised the most?
Just like last year, the first car we checked out at the Geneva Motor Show was the new Polestar. Last year, the Polestar 1 was a stunning new car, the best looking new car at the show — in our prejudiced eyes at least. This year, the Polestar 2 is again a beauty. One of the great things about visiting new places as a journalist is you get to look differently at what you see. The Geneva Motor Show is different because I don’t just look at what triggers my fancy. I look for what is there to write about for CleanTechnica readers. Without that purpose, I probably would not have visited the show at all.
At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, it was not easy to pick one electric car as the undisputed winner.
What is a house doing at a motor show? It is not the first house we’ve seen on a show floor. Renault has a habit of showing houses. Those are around the electric concepts of their future visions — cars as part of your interior. Not so at Mitsubishi.
Honda is making moves as if it is really serious to enter the electric arena. In Frankfurt 2017, Honda did have a long line of reporters for its concept mini car. That was something that mystified me, until I found that they also offered a trinket for the journalists (a popular drinking mug for the road). The mug paid in press attention.
“Mercedes did not think it would go this fast. All is going to be electric.” That’s the heartfelt admission of a Mercedes person trying to explain what was on the stand.
