France, the second largest auto market in Europe, and 8th in the world, saw 10.6% plugin electric vehicle market share in September. This is almost 4× growth from the same period in 2019 (2.8% share). Cumulative plugin share for 2020 now stands at 9.5% and may reach 10% by year’s end.
Europe’s 2nd largest auto market, France, saw passenger plugin electric vehicle market share of 10.5% in August 2020, a 4× growth in share from August 2019. Bestsellers this year include the Renault Zoe, Peugeot e-208, and Tesla Model 3.

Underneath that article, some readers requested that I do a report focused only on fully electric vehicles. I thought that was a good idea, so here’s a report on that topic.
France, Europe’s second largest auto market, saw electric vehicle market share climb to 9% in June, a huge jump up from the 2.5% of a year ago.
With the overall French market slowly returning to normal (last month it was down just 50%), plugin vehicle sales are also returning to form, with registrations up a splendid 77% year over year in May, to 7,167 units.
France saw a plugin electric vehicle market share of 7.5% in May 2020, triple the May 2019 result, in a steadily recovering overall auto market that is down 50% year on year (YoY). The cumulative 2020 EV result stands at 9.2% share.
While the overall French market ground to a halt due to the coronavirus lockdown (-89% year over year), plugins were down just 66%, with fully electric vehicles (BEVs) faring slightly better, down only -62%. That allowed BEVs to have 74% of the plugin market last month, slightly better than this year’s average of 73%.
