It’s always fun to talk about Elon Musk’s tweets and tokes, but when it comes to predicting Tesla’s long-term financial prospects, savvy observers understand that the two metrics that matter are the demand for the company’s products and the margin of profit it earns on each unit. So, if TSLA stock slips in response to an unguarded comment by the Iron Man, consider it a buying opportunity. If you see evidence that demand for Teslas is flagging, then you can start to worry.

The popularity of electric vehicles is becoming very apparent in so many ways. In many places, the price of used electric vehicles is actually increasing, because demand is so high. In the case of the Tesla Model 3, some people are paying more for a recent used car, than the price of a new one. This is because they are not prepared to wait in the reservation list to get one. In my own experience, I see more and more electric vehicles on the road. Where I used to have the charging stations to myself when on my travels, now I see more and more electric vehicle drivers charging alongside me. I think I will soon be joining a queue, as there will be more drivers needing a charge than available chargers.

A very interesting discussion relating to the eventual resale value differences between different Tesla Model 3 battery pack configurations was recently begun on the Model 3 Owners Club forum.

I hadn’t personally thought about the subject much at all before reading the discussion, but it makes for a worthwhile line of enquiry. Will early Model 3s with the larger battery pack retain their value notably better than the base level options will?
