2020 — The Year Of The Tesla Model Y & Other ICE-Killing Crossovers

September 15th, 2019 | by Paul Fosse

I'm a big fan of the Tesla Model Y. I've written about the Model Y's 3rd row being the key to it becoming the best selling vehicle in the world, the Model Y beating the Lamborghini Urus (which is over 3 times the price), styling tricks that Tesla used to make an SUV looks like a performance sedan, and most recently Tesla cutting Model Y prices

What’s BMW’s Next Real Move?

February 13th, 2019 | by Zachary Shahan

People like to bash the BMW i3 for its somewhat quirky looks, or for its less than "ultimate" specs. Others love it. I love it, and I actually drive one. Whether you are an i3 critic or an i3 fan, though, we're definitely at a "Munich, we have a problem" moment

Tesla Model 3 = Lightning, Model Y = Thunder

October 6th, 2018 | by Zachary Shahan

Maybe this isn't the right metaphor. Lightning and thunder are essentially the same things — just the light and sound manifestations of a certain phenomenon. Nonetheless, in a sense, I guess you could say that the Model 3 and Model Y will be different forms of the same thing as well, right? Different vehicle forms using the same powertrain — or a very similar powertrain

Jaguar I-Pace In the class of luxury midsize SUV/CUV, we have now or will relatively soon have 5 new fully electric vehicles that are serious all-around usable cars. Oops, in the USA, half the cars are not called cars but trucks. These vehicles are the Jaguar I-Pace, Audi e-Tron, Mercedes EQC, Tesla Model Y, and BMW iX3 — placed in order of expected start date of sales

BMW is now officially taking reservations for its fully electric iX3 in Norway for buyers willing to drop a 15,000 Norwegian krone (€1,550 or $1,800) deposit. The fully refundable deposit locks in a spot in line for the highly anticipated fully electric sport utility vehicle when it moves into production in

BMW Expands Chinese EV Battery Factory & Chooses Solid-State LiDAR Supplier

June 8th, 2018 | by Zachary Shahan

BMW is a top electric vehicle producer. Indeed, it isn't yet shipping 1 million EVs a year and it only has the i3 in its fully electric stable, but it already has plug-in versions of four of its popular models, to supplement the "born electric" i3 and i8. Overall, BMW's plug-in vehicle sales have been growing significantly and they now represent 5% of BMW's sales globally (7% in the US and 9% in the UK). BMW's plug-in vehicle sales have increased 73% in the US, 25% in the UK, and 646% in China this year

The BMW iX3, BMW i4, BMW’s Evolving Electrification Strategy, & A Question Of “Too Little Too Late?”

May 4th, 2018 | by Carlo Ombello

The BMW iX3 electric concept car was finally unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show (Auto China 2018) last week. The long touted prototype of BMW's first electric SUV was accompanied at the show by the BMW i Vision Dynamics four door concept, previously unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and precursor of BMW's future mid-size electric saloon (a Tesla Model 3 competitor). We now have an almost production-ready SUV prototype and a sedan concept indicating two new electric models coming to market over the next two to four years. Will this be enough to compete with Tesla's skyrocketing growth and German rivals' electrification plans in an increasingly crowded EV space
