Of YouTube car reviews, Autogefühl seems to be well balanced to me, not too positive and not too negative. Also, there are so many overly negative reviews and comments about some electric vehicles that there does seem to be a bias against EVs in some people to a degree.
Some attributes of this particular EV are that it has an EPA-rated range of 400 miles, which is a lot for a midsize SUV. It has more than ample quickness from a standstill and a reasonable top speed. It isn’t something ridiculous such as 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds, which is unnecessary and in my opinion simply wasteful of electrons, but it is quick.
Four hundred seems to be the magic number for this new EV because the reviewer says it can charge at a peak rate of 400 kW! That’s really fast, and when combined with 400 miles of range, it may be quite effective for a long-distance roadtrip. The 10% to 80% charge time is about 21 minutes, which, again, is fast. The claim is that 230 miles of range can be added in 10 minutes of charging. In a different video, the estimated energy efficiency is stated to be 4.1 miles/kWh.
This version has the big 108.7 kWh battery and AWD. It costs about 69,000 euros. The entry-level version with a smaller battery starts at about 60,000 euros.
It’s an interesting moment for electric vehicles because, clearly, Tesla sales are down for reasons unrelated to its technology and Chinese EV makers have charged forward, but what about the German EV makers? The reviewer seems to think this particular EV could be a winner for the Germans. The factory for this vehicle is recognized for its renewable energy capacity and it is stated in a comment from the video maker that the vehicle was made with no fossil fuels, which is fantastic. Are there any internal combustion engine vehicles ever made with no fossil fuels?
Video Comments
I’m pulling out a few additional comments from underneath the video as well:
“BMW needs to be congratulated for not only navigating one of the most turbulent periods in auto history profitably, but for developing the next chapter so convincingly. Kudos.”
“They absolutely nailed it! A fresh, modern design that still carries the unmistakable BMW spirit. Well-specced EV with the right balance of style and performance. Definitely going on my shortlist when I’m back in the market for an upgrade (currently driving a Tesla Model Y Performance)”
“You are my favourite reviewer here. Very impressed with the new generation of BMW. My brand has come back!”
