While working on October Tesla sales reports, I noticed a few interesting comparisons that seemed worth highlighting separately. First of all, if you think of iconic sporty cars, and especially iconic American muscle cars, the Ford Mustang is surely one of the first cars that comes to mind.

According to our October sales estimates and official numbers from automakers, the Tesla Model 3 was the 12th best selling car in the United States from January through October of this year (SUVs and pickup trucks excluded). It was approximately 9,000 sales behind the #11 Ford Focus and 21,000 behind our estimate for the #10 Chevy Malibu.
The Tesla Model 3 was the 15th best selling light vehicle in California in the first half of 2018. I’m forecasting that it will be #2 for the year as a whole.
Energy Web Foundation (EWF) has great bones. It was founded by two leading organizations in the clean energy space: the influential Rocky Mountain Institute founded by Amory Lovins in 1982 and the more recently formed Grid Singularity, a blockchain- and grid-fo- cussed organization with core Ethereum blockchain developers, experienced energy executives, energy regulators and technology entrepreneurs.
This may have been the longest I’ve ever taken to create a monthly US sales report, and it may have also been the most difficult. We had a strong sense of how Tesla Model 3 production and deliveries were ramping up through the 3rd quarter, but due to the intense push to get Model 3s out the door and into customers’ hands by the end of the quarter, it has been hard to estimate output in subsequent weeks — much of October.
Tesla Model 3 sales growth this year has been astounding, putting to bed any sensible skepticism about Tesla’s ability to produce a high number of high-quality cars that consumers adore.
The Netherlands had 2,058 plug-in electric vehicle registrations in October, up 147% year over year (YoY), which translates into a plug-in electric vehicle share of 6.8% in the country. That also pulls the year-to-date count to 17,035 units, with the 2018 plug-in electric vehicle share now growing to 4.3%.
