Last week was one crazy busy week, especially as we prepped for the Cleantech Revolution Tour conference coming to Berlin and Wroclaw in one month. The top stories of the week were a bit more controversial than the norm, too. Check them out if you happened to miss them…
How much range do people need? Various studies have jumped into this topic, but I don’t recall seeing anyone survey electric car drivers themselves. So, in our new 93-page electric car driver report, we asked different types of EV drivers across two continents what their range requirements and expectations were for their next EVs.
One of the challenges of the current EV market is extreme lack of choice. There are only a few widely available models, and even if you look in the most popular markets (California, Norway, etc.), EV models only account for a small percentage of all the vehicle classes. We were curious which classes were most desired for future EV purchases and again polled respondents on this topic (simply in regards to size and style, not taking into account price).
Many electric vehicle designers felt the need to stand out, to create a design that flies a bold flag to everyone around that proclaims “I’m modern and different!” While this is great for individuals or businesses looking to make a bold proclamation, most people are looking for a car that looks normal, that drives like a normal car with cool features inside that make day-to-day life just a little bit easier.
The percentage of fully electric and autonomous vehicles on the road will be much higher in 2030 than today, but the majority will still be owned by individuals.
By most measures, the Chevy Bolt is a breakthrough electric vehicle and may become the best-selling pure electric car in the US in 2017. And for that likely achievement, GM should be applauded. But I have to ask: “What if?”
Crazy week last week, eh? If you got a bit too caught up in Donald Trump’s shocking decision to fire FBI Director James Comey (because, apparently, Trump was sort of sick of seeing Comey discuss the FBI investigation into potential collusion between Trump’s campaign team and Russia), perhaps you missed some of our top stories.
Interestingly, the top story of the week got shared by Bernie Sanders on one of his Facebook pages (his US Senator page), but the big burst was thanks to a reader submitting it to reddit, where it rose to the top of the reddit homepage for quite a few people.
The good folks over at EV Annex had a great idea — publish the first Tesla Model 3 book*. When I was introduced to the idea, I thought, “That’s a neat idea,” but just thought it would be a book about the momentous arrival of the most important electric car in history, a car that is iconic as a symbol of the unprecedented transition from polluting cars to clean cars.
With over 100,000 reservations logged in under 24 hours — before the car was even unveiled — it doesn’t take six polls to uncover which electric car tops the list of “expected next EV model.” Nonetheless, the Tesla Model 3 didn’t single-handedly account for the majority of answers for that question, and seeing the precise “future car” split according to 6 six very different EV-driving groups is fascinating.
What better car is there to convert to electricity than a Mini? OK, an older Miata or a Geo Metro, but those cars have already been done. How about the Mini Moke? Well, the E.Moke is coming to the US.
