New Legislation To Revolutionize EV Charging In The UK

New legislation has been enacted in the UK on the 19th of July, 2018. Though this is UK legislation, and only applies here, it is important because it is one of the first attempts to enshrine the requirements for autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicle charging, into law. The legislation is the “Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 2018,” sponsored by The Secretary of State for Transport, Christopher Grayling.

Urban Electric’s Pop-Up Charge Point Could Solve Curbside Urban Charging Challenges

Urban Electric has developed a unique plug-in vehicle charger designed specifically for residential urban curbside charging. The UEone pop-up charger remains out of sight until it is needed. Then the charge point lifts up out of the ground to allow for charging vehicles. This approach clearly has multiple benefits, and with an installation depth of only 405 mm (16 inches), the device is well suited for installation in many urban residential neighborhoods.

But how does it compare to the cost of driving an internal combustion vehicle? We dive into the details, comparing a Model S, Model X, and Model 3 to a 20 MPG gas car and a 50 MPG hybrid in several states across the nation.

5 Common Electric Car Myths

In the UK, Go Ultra Low is a government-backed effort (in association with automakers) to spread awareness about electric vehicles. Go Ultra Low recently joined forces with OnePoll to publish new research regarding the public’s understanding (or lack thereof) related to plug-in cars. It turns out respondents had a number of common misconceptions about electric cars.

Tesla Model 3 Spotted In New Zealand

A Tesla Model 3 was recently spotted in New Zealand. New Zealand is one of 18 countries where the driver’s side is on the right (India and Japan are the largest). The right-side-driver Model 3 will begin deliveries in 2019. The spotted Model 3 has the driver’s side on the left, so it is likely being used for testing purposes. The southern island of New Zealand has some of the windiest, curviest, snowiest roads in the world.
