The most popular CleanTechnica articles of the past week included an original analysis of used Tesla Model 3s versus some of the used gasmobiles it competes against, a 380 mile used Nissan LEAF upgrade, a showering of love for Tesla’s motors from a top auto industry expert, and much more.
The stories that caught the eye and imagination the most this past week on CleanTechnica included an original analysis on used Tesla Model 3 prices (vs. the competition), the seemingly never-ending nefarious activities of the oil & gas industry, and rumors about Tesla Model Y prices and specs (and urban Superchargers).
There are 40 times as many new BMW 3 Series for sale used and 30 times as many Audi A4s as Tesla Model 3s as a ratio of 2018 new car sales. Tesla kicks butt in the used car division too.
I’ve written a lot of articles about how great and affordable the Tesla Model 3 is, and I truly believe it has the potential to become one of the best selling cars of all time. Does that mean it is the right car for everyone? No — although it must be enjoyable for everyone to drive (or not drive, once the full-self-driving software is available), it just isn’t the right car for everyone.

What if you could buy a Tesla Model S for less than the price of a base Model 3? According to Auto Evolution, Tyler Hoover (a.k.a. Hoovies) did just that and “it has a great story. The car was listed on Auto Trader for $32,500. Somehow, the guy ended up paying [an extra] $1,000. Why? Well, the guy selling it had some people in California already interested, so Hoovies had to offer a small bonus.”
Used electric vehicles are an amazing value for the money right now. With the market for new EVs showing record sales, it’s perhaps easy to forget that some of the best buys are on the used market. A press release reports that the overall used market for electric vehicles has increased 7% this year in the UK.
The recent unanimous approval of Bill 104 by the National Assembly of Quebec means that the Canadian province will soon play host to a zero-emission vehicles standard that allows plug-in electric vehicles that are re-conditioned by automakers and being registered in the province for the first time to qualify for available incentives/credits.
