It often seems that just about every new electric vehicle that is either launched, announced or showcased as a concept car for the future is called a ‘Tesla killer” by the mainstream business and automobile press.
I wish they’d just stop it.
Tesla set a new (personal) delivery record during Quarter 1 2017, with a total of around 25,000 vehicles delivered during the quarter, according to an email Tesla sent to CleanTechnica.
EV Volumes has just released its global plug-in car sales report for 2016. There are several exciting findings in the report, including a few that we’ve highlighted in recent weeks, but the most striking news for me was that the Tesla Model S clocked in as the best-selling electric car in the world in 2016.
How many electric vehicles will be sold in the US during 2016? Will Chevy Bolt EV sales grow rapidly following nationwide availability in the late summer? What about Toyota Prius Prime sales (if Toyota ever works out the dealership issues)? What will happen with the Tesla Model 3? Will it launch on time? Will mass production begin this year, or not truly until 2018?
CleanTechnica reader “No way” had a great suggestion last week — poll the community on 2017 Tesla production and delivery predictions. We actually did this last year, but I forgot to check on the numbers until Karl Graves emailed them over. A few of us were quite close to nailing the 2016 total. However, I think we didn’t carefully consider production versus delivery figures, so we are clearly separating those this year.
