The Future Of Tesla’s Mobile Service Fleet

Tesla continues to ramp up its Mobile Service fleet, with a mix of existing Ford Transit vans, Model S sedans, and a few Model X SUVs. The Ford Transit vehicles that have comprised the majority of Tesla’s service fleet since its inception cost $80,000 to set up, but that price tag turns the empty shell of a van into an extremely dense, highly effective mobile service station for Tesla’s vehicles. More recently, the company has started repurposing a few Model S vehicles coming back from lease as mobile service vehicles.

Tesla & Elon Musk’s #1 Priority For 1st Quarter Is Improving Service

Tesla is refocusing on service as its top priority now that it has stabilized production and delivery for Model 3, CEO Elon Musk said yesterday on the company’s Q4 2018 earnings call. Elon said on the call, “One of our major priorities for this quarter is improving service operations,” with a specific focus on North America, which is home to the majority of Tesla’s vehicles.

Tesla’s Software-First Approach Foreshadows The Future Of Cars

Everyone knows that Tesla is an innovative company, and almost everyone knows that its cars don’t need gasoline. But as Lou Steinberg points out in a recent article entitled “Some of the Greatest Innovations are not What You Think,” electrification is not Tesla’s only innovation, and when it comes to competing in the global auto market, it may not even be the most important.

Tesla Summit: Starman, Rangers, Flamethrowers, & Factory Tours

The 2018 Tesla Owner’s Club Leadership Summit was simply a smorgasbord of all things Tesla. Ninety board members of Tesla Clubs from all around the world descended upon Milpitas and Fremont, California. Including those from Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Finland, the UK — so many made the effort to come from far and wide. Deep in conversation on membership and events, Tesla allowed us time (over gratuitous amounts of food) to share valuable ideas on how to better serve our local Tesla owners.

More Nuggets From Tesla’s Q2 2018 Investor Conference Call

This quarter, the Tesla earnings call came on a day that I was already booked to basically spend all of my time slogging around Los Angeles, for CleanTechnica meetings with cleantech leaders as well as family engagements. That resulted in me listening in on the call from my Model 3 in some random neighborhood to the north of Los Angeles, which was surprisingly comfortable. I furiously took notes on the call while comparing them to the quarterly shareholder letter — while also chatting back and forth with our central team as we rallied around CleanTechnica Director & Chief Editor Zach Shahan in preparation for his line of questioning for Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
