Following publicly reported indecision on the matter, the US judge presiding over Waymo’s/Google’s lawsuit against Uber for trade-secrets theft has now reportedly decided to request that prosecutors investigate the claims made by Waymo/Google.
As we previously reported, Waymo/Google is currently in the process of suing Uber for the alleged theft of trade secrets by a former engineer who left to found the self-driving semi truck startup Otto, which was subsequently acquired by Uber.
Tesla’s lawsuit against the former nontechnical program manager of its Autopilot program, Sterling Anderson, has been settled with neither side admitting to any wrongdoing under the agreement. However, Anderson is now barred from recruiting Tesla employees for one year.
A 5-0 ruling by Utah’s Supreme Court has denied Tesla the requested right to sell its vehicles directly to consumers, according to recent reports.
Volkswagen has come to a settlement with 10 US states in relation to environmental claims made as a result of the diesel emissions cheating scandal, according to recent reports.
Orders from the court are that Volkswagen AG exec Oliver Schmidt be detained until his trial in January 2018. These orders come from a US federal judge in Detroit. The decision follows arguments by prosecutors that Schmidt represented a substantial flight risk — as a reminder, the German constitution doesn’t allow for the extradition of German citizens to other countries.
Newly unsealed documents relating to a lawsuit against Monsanto have revealed that the US EPA official who was in charge of evaluating the cancer risk of Monsanto’s Roundup product stated in a conversation with a company exec that he would try to get an investigation started by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) “killed.”
And … that he “should get a medal” for doing so.
Following the filing of a lawsuit last month alleging that former employee Anthony Levandowski (now the head of Uber’s self-driving tech program) stole key elements of its tech, Waymo (Alphabet/Google) has now requested that Uber be legally blocked from operating its self-driving vehicles.

The France-based auto manufacturer PSA Group has been referred to prosecutors for suspected diesel emissions testing cheating fraud, according to recent reports. The news follows earlier reports that fellow French firm Renault has been referred to prosecutors for suspected criminal activity as well.
