Kenya is one of the best places to drive electric vehicles (EVs). Kenya’s grid is very green thanks to awesome geothermal, wind, utility-scale solar, and hydropower plants. All of these make up 93% of Kenya’s generation capacity.
The EV charging business is certainly going to be gamechanger for KenGen and Kenya Power on the revenue side. First of all, they will already have anchor clients with their own fleets! Utility companies own thousands of vehicles, and electrifying those will also cut down their massive petrol and diesel bills.
The largest wind farm on the African continent is now operational near Lake Turkana in northern Kenya. The 310 megawatt installation has 365 wind turbines.
I do not need to feel guilty about contributing to global warming when my grandchildren turn on the TV to watch cartoons. This is because I live in rural, western Kenya, where 87% of the electricity is from renewal sources — the nirvana of Green Deal activists.
