The European passenger plug-in market had some 17,500 registrations last month, up only 6% over the same month last year. Despite this slowdown, the market is up 24% this year, with the electric vehicle (EV) share now standing at 1.4%.
One of the main reasons that many car buyers have been reluctant to buy all-electric vehicles is quite simple — traveling long distances in one is generally quite time consuming and inconvenient. This is mostly owing to the dearth of electric vehicle superfast-charging stations and the low range of many of the offerings out there now.
The European EV market had 29,000 registrations in March, up 30% over the same month last year, making it the third best month ever, only behind the incentive-inflated Decembers of 2015 (34,000) and 2016 (30,000). At this pace, the European EV market is set to reach the 300,000 units milestone by year end. Furthermore the EV market share now coasts at a record 1.5%.
In a bid to simplify the often convoluted process of getting a car, Hyundai is introducing a new subscription program in California that will allow interested parties to gain access to an Ioniq Electric for as little as $275 a month.
The European EV market had over 16,000 registrations last month, up 20% over February 2016, with YTD numbers up 38% year over year (YoY). The market is set to surpass 300,000 units (310,00) by year end. While the EV share is firmly north of the 1% mark, this growth is in no small part due to a refreshed BEV, that’s just gotten a 40 kWh battery.
The Hyundai Ioniq Electric has gotten a lot of accolades from early reviewers, including from us. A new press release from the UK reports that an expert panel has now served up a prestigious award to the car as well. Fleet News chose the IONIQ Electric as the “Best Plug-in Car (0g/km)” for fleets.
Hyundai seems to have really earned this award (even if it didn’t win) and is developing a name for itself in the world of future mobility. The company actually won a second award as well — “Green Manufacturer of the Year.”
Hyundai has unveiled a new Ioniq Electric trim option — dubbed “I” — in South Korea. The intent is to increase the rate of electric vehicle adoption, according to recent reports.
