Sometimes there are really surprising emails in my inbox. A few days ago there was a newsletter from one of the largest car leasing companies in the world, LeasePlan. It advised its clients to not choose a plugin hybrid (PHEV) for their next car in the Netherlands.
A major Dutch leasing company, LeasePlan, has thought a lot about the total cost of ownership of a vehicle. It is getting more and more bullish about electric vehicles. Last year it released a white paper on the topic, after conducting nearly 1000 vehicle ownership scenarios in 13 European countries.

Let’s try to decipher this one. It’s not been that long since I leased an EV. This kind of deal was not around; or not anywhere that I heard of a few years back. Perhaps location makes a significant difference, or are EVs really coming down to a level accessible to those on a small budget?
Are you surprised by the title? We’re not — 100% not surprised. Why buy a new car technology as it rapidly improving year after year when you can lease? That is one of the biggest problems carmakers are facing today as they try to sell EVs, and so far, they haven’t come up with the solution needed.
