There’s a lot of confusion about what has happened in NYC with the New York Taxi and Limousine Commission and the startup electric ridesharing startup Revel. We’re trying to clear that up once and for all.
High-growth electric fleet markets owe much to the consumer EV movement. However, it will be fleets — from commercial to rideshare and transit — that drive the scale benefiting all electrified transport.
Transportation network company (TNC) fleets, like Uber and Lyft in America, Didi in China, and Ola in India, may account for a relatively small share of the number of total automobiles on the road globally. But don’t let that fool you. Electrifying ridehailing has outsized potential to reduce emissions and catalyze electrification in other transportation sectors.
