The Antelope Valley Transit Authority is peeling the plastic off of the first three high-speed wireless bus chargers for its network of buses this week. The city of Xi’an, China has been aggressively pushing into zero emission electrified transit over the last 2 years and with its recent purchase of 200 electric BYD double-decker buses, now boasts more than 3,000 electric buses in its fleet. All told, Xi’an now boasts the largest fleet of fully electric buses in northwest China.
In Roskilde Municipality, close to a million miles is covered by bus each year, and silence is coming to all that travel. All of the city’s old diesel buses are to be replaced by the electric alternative. When the electric buses are fully phased in, the transition from diesel to electricity will save the environment 1,400 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
More electric buses are coming to Hawaii, New York, and Estonia as the world continues the transition away from diesel engines for its transportation needs.
New energy powerhouse BYD won a contract to supply 64 of its electric buses to the Colombian city of Medellín. The new contract represents a milestone for Colombia as it establishes what will be the largest fleet of electric buses in Colombia and the second-largest electric bus fleet in Latin America, behind BYD’s recent delivery of 100 buses in Santiago, Chile, late last year.
Delhi, India, is one of the world’s top cities for air pollution. In fact, a research study found that fine particulate matter air pollution there contributed to almost 15,000 premature deaths in 2016. Particulate matter has been linked to premature death, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and respiratory diseases.
The California Air Resources Board has approved a new initiative that will see all buses used by public transportation agencies be zero emissions vehicles by 2040. It also plans to convert all airport shuttles to ZEVs by 2037.
