Effective December 3, California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project will see two key changes, with the net effect being that 13 currently available electric vehicles will no longer be eligible for rebates. These changes in the California rebate program also can serve as a model for improving the federal EV tax credit.
The California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project provides a rebate of up to $7,000 when a California resident who is eligible for the program buys or leases a new all-electric, plug-in hybrid, or fuel-cell electric vehicle.
California, no question about it, is one of the world’s premier leaders in the transition to electric vehicles. Various California policies — not to mention startups — have been critical for stimulating more electric car production and more electric car consumer demand. That said, whenever it comes to spending money, a debate is just around the corner.
