Refilling Lake Chad With Water From The Congo River Using Solar Power

Decades ago, when I was in high school, I read Willy Ley’s book Engineer’s Dreams: Great Projects that Could Come True. I vividly remember one of these gigantic, pie-in-the-sky dream projects. If the Congo River were dammed at the right spot, a large lake would form. It would then overflow into a river feeding into Lake Chad. Lake Chad would fill up to its prehistoric level and would then overflow into an ancient river that once flowed through Algeria and Morocco into the Mediterranean Sea.

Electric Car Sales In Emerging EV Markets — Chapter 1: Africa

While EV adoption is fairly well documented in North America, Europe, and Asia, other geographies have been mostly or entirely absent from the media coverage — like Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. While electric vehicles in most countries in these areas are still something for the future, there are some interesting cases that deserve special mention. As such, I have split this topic in three chapters — one for Africa, the second for the Middle East, and the third for Latin America. Here, I am covering chapter 1, Africa.

Algeria Pursuing LPG Vehicle Conversions, Solar PV Build Out, & Energy Efficiency Programs As Solution…

As a partial solution to falling oil industry revenues, the government of Algeria has unveiled a suite of new programs meant to improve the country’s financial situation, including incentive programs for vehicle owners who convert their vehicles to run on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) rather than petrol/gasoline or diesel, a solar PV facility build out, and energy efficiency programs.
