Google Maps Now Features EV Charging Stations #NewsQuickie

December 30th, 2018 | by Zachary Shahan

OK, this isn't the hottest news on the planet, but if you missed it, it may be helpful to know that Google Maps now enthusiastically jumps to your service if you're looking for an EV charging station ... which sort of steps all over PlugShare's toes, but is admittedly a big help for many electric car drivers, especially newbies who knew enough to get a Tesla Model 3 but know very little otherwise about EV life and apps

Hubject & ReCharge Partner To Expand Interoperable EV Charging Network

October 10th, 2018 | by Kyle Field

Hubject has partnered with ReCharge to enable EV charging at public charging stations without the need for all those pesky RFID cards that EV drivers are currently forced to carry. The partnership seeks to build on ReCharge's in-car technology called Plug n' Charge, which is made possible thanks to its intercharge platform that allows for international, interoperable charging on compatible stations

8 Keys To Eliminating EV Range Anxiety On Long Road Trips (Part 3)

September 29th, 2018 | by Loren McDonald

Road trips are a make or break factor for mass adoption of electric vehicles in the US. Unlike much of Europe and many other parts of the world, the US does not have a train system that connects most cities in the country (Amtrak in the Northeast being an exception). As such, most Americans either fly or rely on their cars when they go on vacation to Disneyland or Disney World, to visit relatives a few states away, or to take their child to college hundreds of miles away

Blink Network Founder and Executive Chairman Michael Farkas Talks Public Charging (CleanTechnica Exclusive)

June 5th, 2018 | by Kyle Field

There are two primary segments of the public charging market that charging network operators are looking to tap. One segment of the market is all about "filling up" on the go. These operators want to help you charge up as fast as possible, much like gas stations do for gas cars. They'll be built along expressways and at freeway entrances and exits. They'll sport the highest speeds possible. In the US, evGo and ChargePoint are very much leaning into DC fast charging. In the US, there are companies like Greenway and Fastned

How To Find EV Charging Stations, How Charging Works

April 15th, 2018 | by Kyle Field

Plug-in vehicle drivers have more options than ever when it comes time to find a plug-in vehicle charging outlet. In the US, charging network operators such as ChargePoint and EVgo have developed robust smartphone apps that make finding a station within the network easy. In other countries, there are often similar networks with their own apps for local drivers

Factory Outlet Malls: One Of The Keys To Building Out Interstate EV Charging Infrastructure (CleanTechnica Exclusive)

December 16th, 2017 | by Loren McDonald

On a recent return trip from the Sacramento area on Interstate 80, I needed to add about 20 miles of range to my electric vehicle (EV) to make sure I reached home with plenty of range to spare. I most likely would’ve made it home without adding any additional range, but the Tesla navigation routed me to a Supercharger location at the Vacaville outlet malls. After plugging in, my wife and I visited a few clothing stores, the restrooms, and then spent about 15 minutes at a cookware/kitchenware store

Dramatic Changes In EV Market In Past 5 Years, & What Will Drive Mainstream Adoption

October 1st, 2017 | by Court Nederveld

What would it take to get a person to buy an electric car? The debate rages about range, environmental issues, performance, size, looks, and repair issues. All important topics, but what's occurred in just 5 years? In 2011 practically zero EVs were available. Five years later, Nissan has sold a quarter million, Tesla has roughly 200,000 sold and 500,000 ordered, and the Chevy Bolt appears to be selling about 1,000 a month. The Fiat 500E sells in the tens of thousands despite CEO Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Chief Executive, Sergio Marchionne, begging people not to purchase his car. Don't even mention the EV capital of the world, China

Electric Car Life 101

September 1st, 2017 | by Zachary Shahan

Electric cars — great, fun, quick, clean, smooth, quiet, convenient to charge at home and work. But wait, what's life like with an electric car? How do you charge? Where do you charge? What do you need to charge? How do you protect the most valuable component of the car — the battery
