At some point this fall, someone somewhere drove the millionth electric vehicle sold in the US off a car lot and onto the road (Europe passed the one-million-EV milestone in August, and China reached it about a year ago, The Guardian reports). With a new generation of EVs beginning to hit the market, and massive numbers of public chargers under construction from coast to coast, the electric future is beginning to take shape.

Tesla set record after record in 2018. It passed up automaker after automaker in terms of sales as well as market cap. And it actually started turning a profit. Let’s have a closer look as 2018 comes to a close.
As Tesla’s production ramp for the Model 3 continues to improve, so does its process. Part of this can be attributed to engineering efficiencies. Business Insider reports, “After a recent visit to the company’s Fremont, California factory, analyst Pierre Ferragu of New Street Research, far and away Tesla’s most bullish analyst on Wall Street, said the sedan is ‘biblical’ in its simplicity.”
Could electric vehicles disrupt the reign of Big Oil? Apparently not. According to Arab News, Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Al-Falih publicly downplayed, “what he described as the ‘hype’ of the electric vehicle market.” And he emphasized that “miscalculations around the pace of [vehicle] electrification could create ‘serious’ risks around global energy security.”
There’s so much cleantech news to cover that we generally have hundreds of stories on our “story sheet” that we’re never able to cover. In the coming days, we’ll be rolling out a couple of strategies to help deal with our backlog. Yep, this #NewsParty format is one of those.
Tesla is a polarizing stock on Wall Street. There are plenty of bulls and bears that work hard to make their case. However, there’s a new Wall Street analyst covering Tesla [NASDAQ: TSLA] who’s enthusiastic about the company’s potential but warns of great volatility ahead. According to CNBC, “Wedbush Securities began coverage of Tesla shares on [December 14] with an outperform rating.”
