A magnetically levitated train line between Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka has reportedly been in development since as far back as the 1970s. So, it has had its stops and starts. The Central Japan Railway recently got a pretty big go-ahead to “to proceed with construction” from the Japanese government.
A tunnel in Belgium built to protect high-speed trains from falling trees is now covered in 16,000 solar panels (yes, you may remember Tina covering this project a bit as it got underway last October).
Two designers have created an innovative product meant to capture displaced wind from passing trains or subways and convert that wind power to electricity. Called the T-box, the device was designed by Qian Jiang and Alessandro Leonetti Luparini, winning a silver medal at the 2010 Lite-on awards exhibited in Taiwan.

I’ve written about high-speed rail quite a lot on here. Clearly, I think it’s one of the best transportation options we can invest in. Although, while I’ve tried to explain why numerous times, I don’t think I ever did so as well as actors Vincent Kartheiser and Rich Sommer of “Mad Men” do in the clip below. Kartheiser and Sommer teamed up with the U.S. PIRG and Funny Or Die to create this video in order to bring support for high-speed rail into the mainstream (for obvious reasons).
