Hybrid Electric Cars

Finding The Elusive Prius Prime (+ Toyota Prius Prime Review)

Going into 2017, I wanted to test drive some of the new plug-in hybrids hitting the market. Unfortunately, I found the newest plug-in hybrid EVs (with the exception of the 2017 Chevy Volt) difficult if not impossible to find in my area (in a populous part of Florida, which is ranked 5th for EV sales in the US).

After a disappointing call to the Toyota dealership closest to me (no luck), I called around to find that I would have to drive quite a distance to have a first-hand look at a Prius Prime.

False News & Test Driving New Electric Cars In Florida

We hear more about false news these days than in the past — unless you grew up with me. False news has always been around. I was raised by a father who ranted about “Madison Ave” controlling our lives. “Watch out what you read — make sure it’s true. Question what you hear. Avoid gossip, it leads to lies.” Now, we witness our head of state refusing to answer straightforward questions from reporters and just shouting back that they are “fake news” — a clever way of turning the story on its head after the focus had been on pro-Trump outlets and advisors peddling false news.

California Has ~50% Of US Electric Cars

EV Volumes recently highlighted some interesting stats with an interesting graph showing plug-in electric vehicle sales figures for the years 2011–2016 separated by state.

As the graph shows, the vast majority of plug-in electric vehicle sales in the US have been in California — with Georgia, Washington, New York, Florida, and Texas making up the anemic vanguard.
