The day after Tesla’s long-anticipated Battery Investor Day, Tesla stock fell about 10%, and it remained at that price for a while. Elon Musk admitted the media reaction to Battery Investor Day made him “sad,” and that not enough credit was given to manufacturing.
Like I did when I discovered that Smart Summon was actually doing great back in October of last year, I wanted to dive into what we know about this Full Self-Driving (FSD) update now, and how we should all feel about it.

In just a few hours — on Tuesday, September 22, at 1:30pm Pacific Time — Tesla will kick off Battery Day. I’ve seen a ton of articles making predictions about what Tesla will unveil on Battery Day, but I haven’t seen many about what to watch for, both at the event and after it.

I’ve been thinking about writing this article for a while, but have held off because of how enthusiastic the overall market has been about the potential for Tesla to be included in the S&P 500. I’ve avoided addressing it in my other articles so far because — spoiler — I don’t think it really matters.
At the end of the day on September 8th, I checked my phone and learned that my stock portfolio had received it’s largest single day hit in my entire life. My value on paper was down by five figures, larger than any single day drop I had experienced even at the beginning of the pandemic.
On the day my previous article was published, Tesla stock closed at $1500.84. Today, as I write this, the stock price is currently at $2,213.40 per share, right before the split occurs.
My recent article on “Tesla’s Warranty Accounting Mystery” got a lot of comments, and to reply correctly, I feel as if I should share some further research. In this article, I’m going to specifically discuss the “goodwill” warranty claims that keep coming up, what I know about them, and what I think I think about them.
