I don’t normally do this — in fact, I don’t remember ever doing it — but I’m just going to launch this article with initial images of the BYD Seal 08. It’s a stunning looking vehicle, and will surely sell well.
That’s going to sell well. It’s a BYD, so we already know the pricing will be unbelievable, and a source of much envy for American and European readers.
The Seal 08 is indeed the flagship sedan in BYD’s Ocean lineup. It includes BYD’s latest generation of the Blade Battery, which we think consumers have been delaying at least some purchases to get. With “Flash Charging,” that means the car can be charged from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes, thanks to its 800-volt high-voltage platform as well. This really seems like a “game changer” level of charging.
The vehicle’s official launch is coming on July 2, but cars are reportedly already in dealer stores in 20 Chinese cities. The lines are probably already building…. Of course, you can already pre-order the Seal 08, and that’s how buyers are actually “lining up” for now.
Depending on how you measure things, the Seal 08 is a midsize or large sedan.
Some other key features
- BYD’s DiSus-A body control system replacing coil springs with adjustable air springs — the system dynamically adjusts vehicle ride height, stiffness, and aerodynamics based on driving conditions.
- Zero-gravity seats in front.
- Seats with ventilation, heating, and massage functions throughout the car.
- Electric soft-close doors.
- Double-layer acoustic glass.
Yes, aside from the full electric (BEV) version, there will be a plugin hybrid DM-i version of the Seal 08.
Following the launch of the Seal 08 sedan, BYD will launch the Sealion 08 SUV. Stay tuned.
