The First Toyota Plant to Go Carbon Neutral: “One Tahara”

Tahara Plant is located in Tahara City, Aichi. About 9,000 people work at the plant, which spans 4.03 million square meters and is one of Toyota’s largest production sites in Japan.

In FY2026, this enormous plant became the first within Toyota to attain carbon neutrality at the plant level.

Carbon neutrality refers to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including CO₂, as much as possible, while balancing out unavoidable emissions through absorption and removal efforts activities such as forest management.

The scope covers greenhouse gas emissions generated by vehicle production activities within the Tahara Plant premises.

The plant has introduced a number of large-scale initiatives to reduce emissions, including eye-catching wind turbines standing approximately 145 meters tall—among the largest in Japan—as well as around 1,200 solar panels installed along the test course.

In addition, efforts have been made to reduce emissions within the vehicle manufacturing process itself.

“Under the One Tahara slogan, the entire plant came together as one team,” said a staff member.
