Recently CleanTechnica’s CEO, Zachary Shahan, hosted a webinar with GridBeyond and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to discuss unlocking the value of virtual power plants. It was our first webinar in a few months and it was great to be back!
We had lots of folks join us live, though if you missed it, see the recorded conversation here:
Virtual power plants (VPPs) are not new. Historically, the majority of VPP capacity has been utilized in demand response programs to help improve grid reliability when bulk power supply is limited. However, VPP applications have the potential to provide much more value as the grid transitions to a more decarbonized, decentralized, and digital future. All things we love to hear!
Our panelists were Andrey Bernstein, Senior Research Manager from NREL; Ben Sigrin, Senior Product Manager at GridBeyond; and Jeremy Cook, Director of Net Zero Solutions at GridBeyond. We learned a lot more about how VPPs can play an important role in a sustainable energy future.
In September the DOE released its “Pathways to Commercial Uplift for VPPs” report. During the webinar, we unpacked that report with our panelists and talked about ways distributed energy resource asset owners, utilities, and grid operators can capitalize on the benefits of VPPs today.
We had lots of great audience questions, too. Thanks to everyone who joined us and participated in this critical conversation. If you weren’t able to listen live, you can check out the recorded webinar below. Find out how we can unlock the value of virtual power plants in the current energy sector. Thanks for watching!
