Bye Bye, Bolt

After six years, the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV will soon be retired.

While it wasn’t smooth sailing for all of those six years, the Bolt EV was the first mass-market long-range EV for Chevy, and it has some very loyal owners. Early on, there was the minor issue of the car’s seats not being too comfortable (something some owners took into their own hands by boosting the car’s cushioning) — GM listened to its customers and made the seats more comfortable. More dramatically, there was the recall over the battery pack. And, for many, the confusion of Bolt versus Volt was a perfect example of EV marketing gone wrong.

The Bolt EUV was the first Chevrolet to offer GM’s hands-free driving experience with Super Cruise.

After my 2011 Nissan LEAF met with an unfortunate fate, I found the Bolt EV was the ideal vehicle for my needs. But, with its new Ultium Platform and higher DC fast-charging speeds, the Bolt will be soon in the rear-view mirror, making way for the new Chevy Blazer EV, Chevy Equinox EV, and Silverado EV.

Production of the Bolt EV and EUV will continue at Orion Assembly until late this year and then will be converted to produce electric trucks.

The Chevy EV DNA will continue with the hopes of even more compelling reasons for folks to drive electric.
