UK’s Eco-Smart Home Tech Manufacturer myenergi Surpasses 500,000 Product Sales, Secures £30M In Funding

myenergi says it is firmly on track to become the UK’s largest home EV charge point provider before the end of the calendar year.

myenergi, an eco-smart home technology manufacturer based in the UK, has just celebrated a big milestone, as its product sales surpassed 500,000 units. myenergi was founded in 2016 by Lee Sutton and Jordan Brompton, whose passion for renewable energy drove their vision to optimize renewable energy use at home. They anticipated the current accelerated push towards electrification of transport, renewable energy, and behavioral change, and then sought to design and manufacture a range of innovative products which would facilitate this shift.

myenergi says that its range of products are together the first eco-smart home energy solution developed for consumers in this space. myenergi is headquartered in Stallingborough and employs more than 450 people. It has subsidiaries in Germany, Australia, Ireland, and Benelux. myenergi’s product range includes what it calls the world’s first solar-compatible smart electric vehicle charge point, known as the zappi, as well as the eddi solar power diverter, the harvi wireless current monitor, and libbi smart home battery.

The zappi EV charger can operate as a standard home car charger using power from the grid, and it also has optional charging modes which use 100% green energy generated from your own home solar PV system or wind. The zappi’s three modes are eco, eco+, and fast charging. The eco charge mode enables the utilization of a mixture of both locally generated green energy and energy imported from the grid. The eco mode minimizes the use of grid power, generally taking advantage of cheaper rates overnight in areas where Time of Use (TOU) tariffs apply, but can also charge using 100% locally generated green energy. myenergi say that the charging power is continuously adjusted in response to changes in local energy generation from renewables, as well as how power is being used elsewhere in the home.

The eco+ charging is very similar to eco charging in that it can utilize power from the grid or your own power source. However, the charge power is continuously adjusted in response to changes in generation or power consumption elsewhere in the home. Your electric car charging will pause if there is too much imported power, continuing only when there is surplus free power available.

In fast mode, your vehicle will be charged at maximum power. This power can come from a renewable energy source or simply from the grid. If you don’t have solar panels or wind generation, the zappi will charge just like an ordinary Level 3 charging point.

myenergi’s eddi is a power diverter that utilizes surplus self-generated energy by redirecting it within the home. The eddi allows you to redirect power within your home and manage how much energy you draw from the grid. It diverts power based on your energy generation and usage. The eddi power diverter will include a grid current sensor, aka a CT clamp (current transformer), which monitors your power generation and diverts the excess to your heating devices. The eddi logs all energy-saving data to enable ongoing savings by optimizing usage.

Then there is the harvi. The harvi is an energy monitoring wireless sensor that myenergi say is an essential part of the installation process that saves time and money. It eliminates unsightly wiring, prevents disruption to your home decor, and enables the myenergi product family to be installed without using a hardwired current transformer.

myenergi has also recently added a modular battery system called the libbi. It allows you to capture as much surplus solar electricity as possible, while integrating with your existing myenergi devices. libbi is modular by design. Each module can store up to 5kWh of electricity, so combining 4 of them together would provide up to 20kWh of storage.

myenergi’s devices can therefore work together to create a home ecosystem that enables customers to control and optimize energy usage in their homes, while maximizing self-consumption from their own renewable generation technology, such as solar panels and wind turbines.

UK sales of the company’s zappi solar EV charge point in 2022 almost doubled compared to the previous year, with more than 55,000 units shipped (increasing from around 29,000 in 2021). myenergi says this trajectory puts the Lincolnshire-based company firmly on track to become the UK’s largest home EV charge point provider before the end of the calendar year.

Commenting on the milestone, Lee Sutton, co-founder and Chief Executive of myenergi, said: “With demand for eco-smart home energy technology increasing at a record rate, we’re delighted to have surpassed 500,000 global sales – a huge testament to the work of our talented team. Our next big milestone will be the sale of our one millionth device, which we are firmly on track to deliver by 2025, helped by our state-of-the-art new manufacturing facility that will become operational in the coming months.”

Jordan Brompton, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, added: “Our zappi solar EV charger continues to outperform the market, delivering growth of 96% last year, compared to 40% growth in pure electric car registrations. We are on course to become the UK’s leading provider of home EV charge points before the end of the year; something we could only have dreamed was possible when first starting the business.”

In a major boost to the company’s operations, myenergi has just secured a £30m funding package from HSBC UK to support the development and production of innovative smart home energy products. This significant investment will allow myenergi to continue to innovate and grow, underlining its position as a leader in the smart home technology industry. The funding will be used to expand the company’s operations, enhance its production capabilities, and invest in research and development to create new and innovative products that meet the evolving needs of consumers, including electric vehicle chargers and batteries for storing energy.
