China Electric Vehicle Sales Jump 175%, Up To 4.8% Of Auto Market In January!

Traditionally, January, along with February, are the two slowest months in the Chinese plug-in vehicle market, but tradition is not what it used to be. Even with disruption hitting the Chinese automotive market (the mainstream market was down 18% last month), plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) sales were up an amazing 175% year over year (YoY), to some 96,000 registrations.

China is charging full speed ahead into electric vehicles, on track to sell over 2 million EVs this year, from 1.1 million in 2018. The rapid growth has been driven partly by policy, but increasingly by consumer demand. A rising proportion of Chinese consumers simply prefer electric vehicles to traditional combustion vehicles, viewing them as a new and superior technology, and better value. With EVs continuously improving and getting more affordable, there’s a clear path to EVs taking 50% of market share in China by 2025.

Open Letter To The Koch Brothers: How You Can Help The Environment And Make More…

Before I get to the letter, I should let you know, I don’t hate the Koch brothers like many readers do. I have worked with some of the organizations they support, like Americans for Prosperity (I worked with them to oppose government funding of sports stadiums, which benefit well connected rich sport fans but hurt everyone else) and several other projects, including criminal justice reform. Admittedly, I do also hate some of the actions that they have been accused of, like spreading misinformation on electric vehicles (EVs).
