This video might be financially dangerous because you may want a Tesla Model X after watching it. It starts with a number of details about the doors, but the most compelling part is the driving section, which is toward the end. One of the most remarkable points, the reviewer says, is that the vehicle is very quiet. This is obviously because there is no internal combustion engine and no exhaust system. “You feel so relaxed by that, and I really just love it,” he explains. Perhaps more telling is the comment, “this car really feels like no other,” which he also says is the main characteristic of the vehicle.
(As a side note, when you take a trip to “get away from it all” and you drive a gasomobile, you still have an ICE engine and all the noise and vibration that goes with it. If you have an all-electric vehicle with a lot of range and you drive out to a more natural setting, you will be much quieter and may be able to relax more quickly and fully.)
When was that last time you were very relaxed driving your gasomobile? The one downside to the driving experience, he says, is the exterior wind noise when moving at higher speeds, which is much greater than a typical Mercedes in this class, according to the reviewer.
He makes a very important point around the 40:49 mark as well, which is that the Autopilot is not meant to be fully self-directed yet — a few Tesla drivers have over-relied on it, resulting in accidents.
The most important note: What music does the Model X “holiday show” play? “Wizards in Winter,” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
About this musical ability, the reviewer says it’s totally nonsense, but fun.
The wireless electronic key lets you open and close the falcon-wing doors, the rear hatch, and the front trunk (or “frunk”). The falcon-wing doors also have technology that detects obstacles. So, if they are closing and touch a person, they will stop instead of closing on her or him to prevent injuries. Also, when you sit in the driver’s seat and press the brake pedal, the driver-side door automatically closes.
The reviewer also notes that there are some tiny issues on this particular Model X, like doorhandles not being aligned perfectly, but he doesn’t seem too bothered by them. This review was published on YouTube in May of 2018. The reviewer reminds us that the build quality has improved since the early Model Xs. Tesla is constantly improving build quality and features.
The side mirrors can fold in, which is a nice feature — especially if you have ever accidentally had one hit by another vehicle or brushed one against a wall or tree branch.
The vehicle comes with 20-inch rims and you can get 22 if you prefer. The reviewer says with the larger wheels there is a rougher ride though.
Of course, what matters by far and away is that the Model X doesn’t use fossil fuels and it has zero tailpipe emissions, so it is much better for human health and the environment.
At some point, the reviewer makes an odd comment in that he says the Model X might not be so good for placing a bike in the back and that the Model S might be better. However, if you take the wheels off a bike, you don’t need as much as space, and many bikes have quick-release wheels. If you have a Model X, you also probably can afford an external bike rack, so it wouldn’t be necessary to place a bike inside the vehicle.
He says the third row of seats doesn’t have enough legroom for an adult of above average height, unless there are only 2 seats in the middle section with empty space between them. That said, our above-average-height reviewers found it can work fine — just a bit cozy. We placed someone 6’4″ in the driver’s seat, someone 6’4″ in behind him, and someone 6’1″ in the back — they all fit comfortably.
