The Sustainability Unconference is coming to San Francisco– will you be there?
The Sustainability Unconference is focused on bringing together the green business community for cooperative learning, and the next event will be held in San Francisco, January 28, 2017.
What is an Unconference?
An unconference is organized around a central theme but does not have pre-planned agenda items — the items on the agenda are decided upon by the participants the day of the event.
This open format allows for innovation, sharing, and collaboration across attendees in ways not always available at regular conferences. This gives participants a chance to learn new skills and gain insight from colleagues within the green business field, whether they are currently working in sustainability, looking to start a green business, or seeking a new green career opportunity.
Chris H., a front-end developer who attended the Honolulu event, said, “The Unconference was a great networking and brainstorming event! My favorite part of the day was the creation of the agenda — hearing everyone’s expertise, ideas and passions.”
What Can You Learn at an Unconference?
Regardless of what your role is in the green business field, everyone has organizational, marketing, and general life experiences that a fellow Unconference attendee can learn about.
While the topics at each Unconference varies depending on who attends, some example workshop topics from the previous Sustainability Unconference (held in Honolulu in 2015) include:
- Successful inbound marketing techniques
- Navigation of local small business laws
- Building a green business or incorporating CSR into an existing business
- Socially Responsible Investment (SRI)
- Helpful tips for workplace productivity
The Unconference will also feature a Speed Networking session, in which all participants chat with each other for three-minute intervals to meet potential new customers or partners and help connect the green business community of the Bay Area.
This event will also bring personal sustainability into the green business discussion — after all, you can’t manage a company well if your body is not well! To that end, the Sustainability Unconference has partnered with Vegan Burg, sweetgreen, and Imperfect Produce to help bring delicious, healthy food to the attendees.
The San Francisco Sustainability Unconference will be held at ECO-SYSTM Coworking, January 28, 2017, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
