China’s state-run news agency Xinhua has revealed that China has currently halted construction on new coal-fired power plants in an effort to avoid building over-capacity while simultaneously hoping to promote a cleaner energy mix.
China’s installed wind energy capacity has increased yet again, growing 13% in the first quarter over the same time a year earlier, bringing the country’s cumulative capacity up to 151 gigawatts.
Reports this week based on news from China’s official Xinhua news agency have revealed that China’s capital of Beijing is planning to further cut coal consumption by 30% this year as part of the city’s larger efforts to tackle air pollution.
