Amidst poor response from project developers for several solar power tenders in the past few weeks, India has issued yet another solar power tender, this time with an obligation for project developers to use solar cells and modules manufactured in India.
About a year and a half after the United States secured a favorable ruling at the World Trade Organization against India’s solar power program, India has scored a similar ruling against solar power programs of several US states.
The Indian government has issued the first tranche of the 12-gigawatt self-use solar power tenders as it looks to support Indian manufacturers of solar cells and modules. The self-consumption of power generated from these power plants shall be achieved through government-owned public sector companies.
Late on Tuesday China finally moved to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the United States’ import tariffs on solar PV products which it believes violate WTO regulations.
International manufacturers sent twice as many solar cells and modules to the US in November 2017 as November 2016. Solar panel importers are looking to capitalize on the robust market fundamentals ahead of potential future tariffs, ArsTechnica reported.
