A Used Tesla Costs More Than A New One In China
The used car market is taking off everywhere!
The used car market is taking off everywhere!
Tesla delivered nearly 500,000 new electric cars last year. In 2019, it delivered over 367,000 cars. 2018, too, saw six-figure electric car sales. And Tesla is just one brand! Nissan has sold hundreds of thousands of LEAFs, Kia has sold thousands of Souls, etc., etc., ad nauseam. While those numbers … [continued]
I came up with the idea for this article after I noticed that Tesla is enabling the $10,000 Full Self Driving (FSD) capability on every Model 3 that it is selling used. I spoke to a couple of salespeople and verified that is the case.
TL;DR: It depends. Used Model 3’s are either a great deal or a horrible one and I will present both cases and they are both potentially true. I depends on your situation.
Most people haven’t internalized the thought of their Teslas turning into money spinners instead of costs yet. When that starts sinking in, the data may change. But by that point, other cars probably will have full self-driving capabilities as well.

There are a few used Model S on its website that are hovering around the $35,000 mark, with one that can be had for just a hair less … as I write this.
As Tesla finds itself with more used cars on its hands, it is turning to Adessa and Manheim, two of the largest automobile auction companies in America, to help it manage its used car inventory.
As the media never tires of reminding us, the price of a new electric vehicle is still considerably higher than that of a (supposedly) comparable gas-burner. However, one point that is seldom discussed is that a huge slice of the auto market consists of used vehicles. Millions of car owners go through their entire lives without ever considering the purchase of a new car. Now that EVs have been available for several years, a lively used market has developed, making electric driving available to an ever-growing segment of the population.
Since its launch back in 2012, the Tesla Model S has been upgraded and changed quite a lot by the pioneering electric vehicle company. In addition to the somewhat recent change of the front-end appearance, the company has changed the appearance of the rear and sides to some degree.
