We still don’t have much info on the Volkswagen ID.3, but we have a little bit to go on regarding price and range.
The base version of the ID.3 is supposed to be under €30,000. I’m assuming that means just under, so will round up to €30,000. The “up to” (idealistic) WLTP range on that trim is 330 km (205 miles). How do these figures compare to the Nissan LEAF and Hyundai Kona EV?

The Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus just became available to order in Europe. This is not a €35,000 or €37,000 car — because taxes, import duties, etc. Though, at a base price of €44,500, the car is competitive — highly competitive.
Many have predicted that the growth of Tesla in Germany will be limited by different factors that are unique to the market and differentiate it from markets like the US, Norway, and the Netherlands. The first of those factors is the German auto industry, which is without any doubt the dominant industry (including suppliers and suppliers of suppliers and suppliers of suppliers of suppliers) in the largest economy in Europe. As such an influential industry, it has a large influence on politics, laws, and regulations.
Deliveries of Tesla’s Model 3 recently started in Germany, the home of VW, Audi, BMW, Porsche, and Daimler; a country that is famous for engineering and truly proud of its automotive heritage.
As a German engineer, I am today more concerned than ever about the ability of our auto industry to survive and prosper.
